Before the end of January in each year the proprietor of every estate shall notify the Commissioner of Agrarian Services if he will cultivate, in accordance with section 5, one or more food crops listed in Schedule 2 or pay a sum of money to be determined in accordance with provisions of section 6. Persons participating in approved enterprises or undertakings may be exempted by the Minister form the obligation (sect. 7). In addition, livestock farmers or fruit growers may be exempted for the obligation to grow food crops under section 8. There shall be established a Food Production Fund for the promotion of food production on government farms and to make loans to food producers.
