Résumé

These Regulations replace regulation 9 of the Fisheries Regulation of 1972. They introduce new restrictions and prohibitions on catching, retaining, selling, buying, exporting or processing certain aquatic species or their by-products and is mainly intended to protect and conserve them. The species in question are crayfish ("Panulirus"), trochus ("Niloticus"), turtles, pearl oysters ("Pinctada"), coconut crabs ("Birgus latro") and crocodiles. The instrument also contains provisions governing the taking or collecting of dead or live coral or coral sand. This is only permitted with a written permit issued by the Chief Fisheries Officer. Anyone practising fish farming or ranching without approval or in contravention of the conditions of the licence granted for that purpose is liable to a fine of 200 dollars or a term of imprisonment of six months, or both. It is forbidden to dispose of fish offal or waste from a fish processing establishment in the sea within one nautical mile off land.
