An Act to provide for the establishment of the office of Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment; provide for the establishment of the Ministry for the Environment; ensure that, in the management of natural and physical resources, full and balanced account is taken of the intrinsic values of ecosystems, all values which are placed by individuals and groups on the quality of the environment, the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, the sustainability of natural and physical resources and the needs of future generations.

This Act, consisting of 2 Parts and one Schedule, provides for the establishment of the office of Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment. The Act defines composition of the office and its powers and functions.
