The state of emergency may be declared by the Governor-General for a period of one month and may be extended by the House of Assembly for a maximum of six months. During the state of emergency, the cabinet may make Orders for, among other things, the distribution of food and water, the taking of possession or control of any property and the acquisition of any property other than land.
