They seek to ensure fair processes, especially relating to licensing processes, public participation processes, appeals processes, reporting requirements and the provision of waste management services during the lockdown period, which are not possible due to the restrictions placed on the movement of people. The Directions extend timeframes for specified processes under the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations 2014, the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 and National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 and the National Appeal Regulations, 2014, as amended, issued under section 44(1)(a), read with section 43(4) of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998.
