Résumé This Decree of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, which is composed of 29 articles and four Annexes, establishes the criteria for the classification of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) according to safety classes, containment and other safety measures, and conditions of work with GMOs for individual safety classes. The criteria for the classification relate to the risk to human health and the environment. This Decree defines four safety classes. Staff qualifications must be appropriate to the safety class. When working with GMOs in the second, third or fourth safety class the biohazard symbol should be used, defined by the regulations governing the protection of workers from risks related to exposure to biological agents at work.
