Conditions may be attached to a permit. The exceptions to the prohibition concern individuals who take by hand not more than 5 kg of cockles and 5 kg of mussels during any one day, those who take cockles and mussels whilst onboard a registered British fishing boat and those who take cockles and mussels pursuant to an Order made under section 1 of the Sea Fisheries (Shellfish) Act 1967.
