As a protection against unauthorized acts which may lead to a diversion or major release of radioactive material, the responsible licensing and supervisory authorities are required to verify the requisite reliability of persons engaged in the handling or carriage of radioactive material and in the erection and operation of installations. Either a comprehensive reliability check (category 1), an extended reliability check (category 2) or a simple reliability check (category 3) shall be carried out.
