The purpose of the Act is to manage the threat of aquatic invasive species (AIS). They pose a significant and growing threat to Canada’s freshwater and marine ecosystems with consequences to multiple economic sectors in Canada. At present Canada does not have national regulations, making it difficult to safe-guard our valuable waterways from new and established species. Invasive species are plants, animals, aquatic life and micro-organisms that, when introduced outside of their natural environment, out-compete native species. When invasive species become established in a new habitat, they can disrupt the existing balance of that ecosystem. Section 1 establishes that the listof aquatic invasive species is the list set out in Parts 2 and 3 of the Schedule and section 2 specifies that a reference in these Regulations to an aquatic invasive species or family of aquatic invasive species by its common name as set out in column 1 in Part 2 or 3 of the Schedule is to be read as a reference to the scientific name of that species or family of species that is set out in column 2. The text consisting , inter alia, of 42 sections deals, inter alia,w ith the following aspects: prohibitions, exemptions, prescribed persons, compliance and enforcement, coming into force. One Schedule is enclosed. Texte intégral Français/Anglais Site web www.canada.justice.gc.ca Références - Législation Implemente Fisheries Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. F-14).
