Résumé The Act partly amends Act No. 255 with regard to the keeping of pregnant sows and gilts. The title is amended from "pregnant sows and gilts" to "gilts, dry pregnant sows", it now implements provisions implementing parts of Council Directive 2008/120/EC of 18 December 2008 laying down minimum standards for the protection of pigs (codified version) Official Journal 2009, L 47, page 5 and inserts regulations whereby pigs must be freed from four weeks of age and gilts shall be transferred to a barn or sheds for mating. Some animals that are aggressive, have been attacked by other pigs or are sick or injured, may temporarily be kept in individual and separate encounters.
