Resumen

These Regulations provide for the prevention and control of discharge of waste (defined) in the air, waters and soil of titanium dioxide. They also define methods for the monitoring of discharges (Annex). The Competent Authority, being the Department of Environment Protection (reg. 2) shall ensure the prevention and progressive reduction of pollution caused by waste with a view to its elimination (reg. 3). Regulations 6, 7 and 8 concern authorization for the discharge, dumping, storage, tipping and injection of waste. Regulation 9 concerns the monitoring of the discharge, etc. of waste, whereas regulation 10 requires the Competent Authority to take appropriate steps to remedy harmful situations, including damage to fish and fish breeding. The Authority shall also draw up a programme for the progressive reduction and elimination of waste pursuant to regulation 11. Other regulations concern authorization of new establishments, surveillance and monitoring, reports by the Competent Authority, non-application of the present Regulations, consultations with other States, of offences and penalties.
