Resumen

The Act provides for the designation of public officers for purposes of this Act, for the prevention, control and eradication of plant diseases, and gives regulation making powers to the Minister. An officer who has reason to believe that measures should be taken for the prevention, control and eradication of disease or pest, may direct an owner of land or a vehicle to take measures as specified in a Notice to the owner of land or a vehicle (sect. 4). The officer may also prohibit the sale or export of crop in which, he has reasonable grounds to believe, that a disease, pest, or residue of a toxic chemical is present, and that no post harvest treatment or other reduction of toxic level can be used effectively (sect. 5). The Minister may declare plant disease emergency for any area in which plant species are threatened by pest or disease (sect. 7). The remaining provisions summarily regulate export and import of plants and articles, and provide for further regulation and offences. The Minister is given the power to place restrictions on the cultivation of certain plant varieties. (17 sections)
