Resumen

This Act establishes a Pesticides Committee under section 2. Section 3 provides that the officer who holds the office of the Principal Plant Protection Officer in the Department of Agriculture shall be the Registrar of Pesticides. The Committee shall: (a) to assess and evaluate any application for the registration of pesticides or for the import of any pesticide; (b) to determine the conditions of use of any pesticide; (c) to promote the efficient, prudent and safe use of pesticides; (d) to administer the provisions of this Act and the regulations made thereunder (sect. 6). Sections 8 to 27 provide rules relative to importation, manufacture, formulation, use, distribution, etc. of pesticides. Importation of pesticides requires a permit (sects. 9 and 21). Pesticides shall be registered in accordance with section 11, and upon registration of a pesticide, a certificate of registration in the prescribed form, shall be issued by the Committee (sect. 12). The registration shall be valid as approval of the pesticide (sect. 18). The Committee may register a pesticide for restricted use and limited marketing (sect. 14). The label of a pesticide shall be approved by the Committee pursuant to section 16. Section 23 concerns importation of pesticides for research purposes. Section 28 regulates the storage in bulk of pesticides. Section 29 prohibits the harvesting of crops of the prescribed time between use and harvest and not elapsed. Other provisions concern inspection, enforcement, and prescribe offences and regulation making powers of the Minister.
