The observance of the rules by navigation is supervised by the national water polices of the Rhine riparian states. The text consists of 15 chapters as follows: General provisions (1); Marking and scales of vehicles; ship calibration (2); Identification of vehicles (3); Audible signals of ships; radiotelephony, information and navigation devices (4); Navigation signs and names of waterways (5); Driving rules (6); Rules for berthing (7); Additional provisions (8); Special rules for navigating and berthing (9); Limitation of navigation in high waters (10); Protection of waters and disposal of ship waste (11); These 11 chapters are divided in 2 Parts as follows: Provisions to be applied to the whole Rhine (I); Special provisions for the environment (II).
