Resumen

This Decree applies to citizens of Norway and to persons resident in Norway who fish in the area defined in the 1980 Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources and in the present Decree. Fishing is prohibited without a permission of the Directorate of Fisheries. Section 3 provides for powers of the Directorate to regulate, further to matters regulated by the Convention Commission, marking of gear and reporting on gear lost in the sea and marine mammals accidentally caught. In accordance with measures taken by the Commission, the Directorate may require vessels to have satellite tracing equipment and inspectors and observers on board (sect. 5). Furthermore, the Directorate may, always in accordance with measures of the Commission, prohibit the fishing of certain species unspecified areas and order the end of fishing operations (sect. 5). Section 6 prohibits bottom trawl and pelagic trawl with nets of a smaller mesh size as indicated in the section. The remaining provisions deal with regulation making powers of the Directorate, catch logbooks and reporting, and prescribed penal provisions.
