Resumen This Decree-Law establishes the legal framework for the quality of water intended for human consumption, transposing into the national legal order: a) Directive No. 2013/51/EURATOM, of the Council of 22 October 2013, which requirements for the protection of the health of the general public with regard to radioactive substances present in water intended for human consumption; b) Directive (EU) No. 2020/2184, of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2020, on the quality of water intended for human consumption (Directive (EU) No. 2020/2184). This Decree-Law aims to protect human health from the harmful effects resulting from the contamination of water intended for human consumption, ensuring safety, cleanliness and improved access to potable water. Its application, carried out by the management entities must be based on the precautionary principle and cannot cause, directly or indirectly, any deterioration or contamination in the current quality of potable water, nor any increase in water pollution used to produce water intended for human consumption.
