They lay out detailed procedures for the preparation of initial environmental evaluations and comprehensive environmental evaluations required by the Act for certain activities in the Antarctic, in accordance with the Madrid Protocol. Draft and final comprehensive evaluations prepared under the Regulations must be sent to each signatory of the Madrid Protocol, and notice of the receipt in Australia of draft evaluations prepared by other signatories must be published in the Gazette. Activities in Antarctic may not begin earlier than 60 days after approval in accordance with these Regulations.
