Abstract

These Regulations amend the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995 in relation to England by inserting regulation 26A to extend the time limit for bringing prosecutions for offences under the those Regulations. They also: insert regulation 29 in the principal Regulations, which requires the Secretary of State to review the operation and effect of those Regulations; permit the use of a biphasic carbon dioxide gas mixture to kill birds in a slaughterhouse; extend the range of birds that can be killed by exposure to gas mixtures on the premises.
