Abstract

These Regulations amend the scope of section 51(2) of the Waste Management Act, 1996, concerning the recovery of sludge and agricultural waste. Section 51 concerns the exemption from the requirements to possess a waste licence under section 39 of the Act. The purposes for which these Regulations are made include the purpose of giving effect to provisions of Council Directive 86/278/EEC on the protection of the environment, and in particular of the soil, when sewage sludge is used in agriculture.
