Abstract Article 1 of the above-mentioned Law establishes that trees in Vienna are to be protected regardless whether they are on public or private soil to secure a healthy environment for the population in the area of the City of Vienna. However, the Law does not apply to forests in the sense of forestry provisions. Article 4 specifies cases in which the removal of trees shall be granted. The text – consisting of 19 articles deals, inter alia, with the following aspects: purpose and sphere of application, duty to conserve, prohibited interventions, duty to authorize, access and information right, penalties.
