Abstract

This Order amends the Tuberculosis Control Order (Northern Ireland) 1999 by: inserting article 4A enabling the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to examine an animal, take samples and apply tests for the purpose of controlling tuberculosis, inserting article 6A requiring the keeper of a herd to maintain the fences dividing his/her holding from adjoining land so as to prevent contact between his/her herd and animals on adjoining land and to prevent his/her animals from straying from the holding and inserting article 11A to make provision for the Department or owner of an animal to submit an appeal to a tribunal if dissatisfied with the market value of an animal. Other substantial amendments concern examination and testing of animals, movement of animals, duties of a keeper of an animal liable to be slaughtered by the Department, and notification of tuberculosis.
