The Malta Environment and Planning Authority is designated to be the Management Authority and therefore shall be responsible for the implementation of the above-mentioned Convention and Regulations. Any person seeking to import, export or re-export any specimen shall apply in writing to the Management Authority. According to regulation 6 (3), the importation of any species which is protected at the country of origin, even if not listed in the Annexes to Regulation 338/97/EC, and even if that country of origin is not a party to the above-mentioned Convention, shall require an export authorization from that country.
