Abstract This publication contains the Technical standards of 16 August 2004 on the protection of the environment, and in particular of the soil, when sewage sludge is used in agriculture, as adopted by the Order no. 344/708/2004. The scope of these rules is to capitalize the agro-chemical potential of sewage sludge, to prevent and reduce harmful effects on soils, waters, vegetation, animals and humans, so as to ensure the correct use of this kind of sludge/sewerage. Maximum permissible values for concentrations of heavy metals in soils to which sludge is applied are here provided, among several other technical standards and parameters (see tables 1-5).
