Abstract Subsoil Code defines the principles, the system and relations of use of subsoil in the Republic of Armenia. The objectives of Subsoil Code are the following: (a) regulation of relations concerning use and protection of subsoil; (b) protection of soil and subsoil disturbed by mining; and (c) protection of public interests and of the rights of subsoil managers. Subsoil shall be public property and it can be conceded for exploitation and management. Subsoil shall not be traded, mortgaged or alienated in any other way. The right of use of subsoil can be alienated or transferred from one user to the other according to the procedures defined by the national legislation. The Act consists of 11 Sections divided in 65 articles. Section 1 (arts. 1-16) lays down general provisions. Section 2 (arts. 17-29) regards geological exploration of subsoil. Section 3 (arts. 30-43) regards use of the subsoil for the extraction of minerals and for activities not related to the extraction of minerals. Section 4 (arts. 44-46) regards fees for subsoil management. Section 5 (arts. 47-50) regards state registration of mineral resources, mines and the plots of subsoil conceded for uses not related to the extraction of minerals. Section 6 (arts. 51-55) deals with protection of subsoil. Section 7 (arts. 56-59) regards state control over subsoil management and protection. Section 8 (arts. 60-61) establishes liability for the infringement of subsoil legislation. Section 9 (art. 62) regards dispute settlement. Section 10 (art. 63) regards international agreements.
