Abstract This Resolution consisting of 11 articles sets rules for licensing food importers and food establishments who work to import food in Egypt with the aim of (i) ensuring the safety and quality of imported food; (ii) providing optimal protection to the consumer from risks related to imported food; (iii) enhancing the efficiency of the final release of food imports by adopting control activities to be taken in the exporting country. The Resolution establishes that to import food it is necessary to obtain a license from the Authority, while the registration of food facilities will be considered as licensing the facility as a food importer in the lists of the National Food Safety Authority. In article 4 are listed the documents necessary for obtaining the license. Obligations of food importers to obtain a license are the object of article 5, including (i) notify the authority of all its food establishments, as well as any change, or the closure, in the activities; (ii) compliance with the measures related to food safety and quality management that are based on the technical rules issued by the authority regarding the regulation of food import control, and international best practices and their continued application. The Resolution regulates also (i) the Authority's obligations towards food importers; (ii) the financial obligations; (iii) cases of suspension or cancellation of the license. Full text Arabic
