Abstract

These Regulations define standards for “food-grade salt”, i.e. a crystalline product consisting of 97% sodium chloride which is used as an ingredient or flavouring in or on foodstuff and which may be obtained from the sea, underground rock salt deposits or natural brine. It also lays down specific standards for salt to be exported, imported or placed on the market of South Africa and prohibits the sale of sub-standard salt.
