Abstract These Regulations provide for the safety assessment and classification of watercourse structures in accordance with the Regulations governing the safety and supervision of watercourse structures. The purpose of the classification of watercourse structures is to adapt safety requirements as prescribed in those Regulations. The upgrading of safety requirements shall be done so as that the installations are able to meet the consequences in the event of a failure such as dam breach. The (re)classification shall be undertaken by the responsible entity as defined by the Regulations governing the safety and supervision of watercourse structures and shall be submitted to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate for approval.
