Abstract This Regulation states the following: The area of the Samar cave system, as the northeastern part of the Kalafat mountain in southeastern Serbia, is placed under protection as the Natural Monument "Samar Cave System", which is classified in the I category of protected area of national or exceptional importance. The natural monument "Cave system Samar" is placed under protection in order to preserve the geological, hydrographic and biological values of the tunnel cave system of the fluvio-karst type. The cave system is developed in two levels of passable channels and with one constantly submerged level of underground karst circulation. It is also important as a habitat for rare and endemic species of animals and insects, especially species of guinea fowl arthropods, several species of bats, great horseshoe bat, small horseshoe bat, long-toed ungulate and fossil finds of animals from the Pleistocene and Holocene. In the area of the Natural Monument "Cave System Samar", a protection regime of the II degree is being established.
