Abstract

This Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, establishes ways of killing animals for veterinary reasons, animals reared for fur production and surplus day-old chicks and embryos in hatchery waste, in order that this shall provide adequate protection for animals. Killing animals for veterinary reasons must be carried out in accordance with the rules of identification, prevention and eradication of certain infectious diseases. These provisions do not apply to the situation when it is necessary to kill an animal in emergency that would prevent its unnecessary suffering. Equipment for killing animals should be designed, built, maintained and used in the manner to achieve quick and effective execution. The Veterinary Administration of the Republic of Slovenia must regularly check whether the equipment is adequate and well maintained to ensure the achievement of these objectives. Persons killing animals must have required knowledge, abilities and professional skills necessary to humanely and effectively perform these duties. This Regulation is composed of 21 articles divided into the following Sections: General provisions (Sec. 1); Methods of killing animals for veterinary purposes (Sec. 2); Methods of slaughter of animals reared for fur production (Sec. 3); Surplus day-old chicks and embryos in hatchery waste (Sec. 4); Transitional and final provisions (Sec. 5).
