Abstract This Regulation lays out rules for the increase, marketing, in situ conservation and sustainable use of the local seeds. In order to prevent genetic erosion of local varieties of field crops, vineyard-horticulture and other plant species, this Regulation sets forth the procedures and principles regarding the registration of the local varieties to be traded, the production of seed and the placing of the seeds on the market and the related controls. Reproduction and trade of local varieties of seeds shall be possible with registration in the Local Variety Register. Market surveillance shall be carried out by the Seed Controllers to control whether the crop varieties are on the list of Local Variety Register.
