Abstract This Regulation prescribes the methods and procedures for measuring the properties and forecasting the genetic value of livestock. The methods for measuring the properties and forecasting the genetic value of the cattle species are as follows: - examination of the properties in cattle testing stations, where all cattle are under equal breeding conditions; - examination of traits in farm growing conditions; - examination of relatives (purebreds or crossbreeds) in testing stations for cattle; - examination of relatives (purebreds or crossbreeds) in farm breeding conditions; - examination based on information collected from sales; - research based on information collected in slaughterhouses; - evaluation of the exterior; - biological and genetic tests and - testing in laboratories. This text is aligned with the provisions of the Commission Decision 2006/427/EC laying down performance monitoring methods and methods for assessing cattle's genetic value for pure-bred breeding animals of the bovine species; 90/256/EEC: Commission Decision of 10 May 1990 laying down methods for monitoring performance and assessing the genetic value of pure-bred breeding sheep and goats; Commission Decision 89/507/EEC laying down methods for monitoring performance and assessing the genetic value of pure-bred and hybrid breeding pigs.
