Abstract

This Regulation lays down the technical, health, welfare and hygiene conditions of zoos and wildlife parks and the procedures and principles for their establishment, operation, licensing and inspection in order to ensure the maximum living conditions of domestic and wild animals in their natural environment. This Regulation applies to zoos and wildlife parks established by real or legal persons and public institutions and organizations, excluding land and water circuses, dolphin parks and pet animal production and sales places. At the zoo and wildlife park, it is essential to possess an invoice, producer sales certificate, CITES documentation for animals falling under its scope, permits for collection and capture from the wild, and other relevant documents verifying the legal acquisition of these animals. This Regulation has been drafted in line with the Council Directive 1999/22/EC of 29 March 1999 relating to the keeping of wild animals in zoos.
