Abstract This Regulation, as for the purposes of the Croatian Law on nature protection, determines the conditions that must be met by all legal entities performing tasks regarding sanctuaries for wild animals, including detailed contents of the application for authorization for this kind of activity. This text further defines: all activities that can be performed by authorized sanctuaries or shelters (including animal quarantine); provides for the list of endangered and rare species of priority animals, which are classified in relation to the degree of their endangerment; sequence of treatment of animals and conditions of recovery and care, method of financing of recoveries; manner of keeping records and content of records on animals taken care of in a sanctuary, contents of a form on surrendering animals for return to nature, treatment of recovered animals ready for release into nature. A sanctuary is a place where individual of strictly protected native species of animals found in nature exhausted, sick, injured, wounded or poisoned, are kept for necessary treatments and recovery for the purpose of returning to nature or for the purpose of repopulation and/or reintroduction, temporarily staying confiscated or confiscated strictly protected animals, as well as animals of wild species confiscated in accordance with a special regulation governing cross-border trade and trade in wild species.
