Abstract

The Regulation provides for the usage of organic fertilizers, organ mineral fertilizers, soil conditioners and microbiological fertilizers in order to increase plant productivity and facilitate soil improvement, and finally to preserve human health and avoid environmental pollution. The classification of the involved fertilizers is detailed in the Annexes, together with the minimum threshold values in heavy metal and harmful micro-organisms content in organic fertilizers, overall, and for those derived from raw animal materials. Organic fertilizers must not contain any harmful micro-organisms as certified by microbiological tests. Analytical methods and labelling and packaging requisites are detailed in the Annex. Companies and individuals involved in the manufacturing, trading, importation and exportation of organic fertilizers must apply to the General Directorate of Agricultural Production. Application procedures and required documents are listed in the text. The importation of solid and liquid organic fertilizers (as per Annex I B1, B2, C1, C2) is therefore prohibited.
