Abstract This Regulation prescribes the following: conditions for performing the work of authorized fisheries observers; manner of work of authorized observers; obligations of the captain of the fishing vessel on which the authorized observer is staying; procedure for appointing authorized observers. This text further ensures the implementation of certain European Union regulations as specified in article 2; also this text is harmonized with Recommendation 22-08 of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), which establishes a multi-year protection and management plan for bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, and Recommendation 16-14 of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) establishing minimum standards for scientific observer programs on fishing vessels.
