Abstract

The purpose of the present Regulation is to ensure that seals are killed under proper animal welfare conditions. It applies to seal hunting from Norwegian vessels, and does not apply to seal hunting in inshore waters outside mainland Norway. As a general rule, hunting/catching methods must be used that protect the animals against of unnecessary stress and strain. The Regulation lays down rules concerning training requirements, prohibited practices, an obligatory three-steps killing method, hunting equipment, etc.
