Abstract It is prohibited to hunt whales, however it is permitted to Norwegian vessels to engage in hunting for minke whale following authorization by the Fishing Directorate and only for a maximum quota of 1 286 in the Norwegian Ecoomic Zone by Svalbard, in the fishery area of Jan Mayen and in the international waters within the IWC areas of ESB, EW, EN and CM.
