Abstract

The purpose of this Regulation is to preserve one of the most interesting and largest contiguous mature forest areas in the region, with the area's flora, fauna and natural ecological processes. Øykjeheia is a pine forest area with good soil unaffected by modern forestry. Along with Maritshei area, it has particular importance for biodiversity constituting a type area for Sørlandets birch and pine forest region with a coherent vertical gradient of 50-500 m. The area of approx. 13 091 acres also has elements of boreal deciduous forests, rich swamp forests and anthropogenous harvesting forest. The objective of this Regulation is to maintain conservation values in the most untouched state, and possibly developing them.
