Abstract The purpose of this Regulation is to protect a little forest area in the Mjøvann natural reserve, Skien municipality, in Telemark. With its variety of habitats, ecosystems, species and natural ecological processes, this specific area is of particular importance for biodiversity and consists of rich and rare highly productive forest types, grown mixed forest with a high degree of natural forest character and a large proportion of dead wood. The area is also of special scientific interest as an example of a varied mixed forest of spruce, hazel, ash and maple, a particularity in the area northeast of Gjerpensdalen.
