Abstract In the framework of the protection of migratory species, the stock of which has been assesses dangerously low in the Dutch waters, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries has decreed a comprehensive set of measures of which this Decrees forms part. Certain obligations to protect salmon arise from international agreements trying to re-establish ecological balance in the rivers Meuse and Scheldt. This Decree introduces the duty to return immediately to the sea any salmon or sea trout caught during the whole year. Also a closed season for freshwater trout is introduces (1 October to 31 March).
