Abstract This Regulation applies to the ban of catch of basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus), spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias), porbeagle (Lamna nasus) and silkehai (Carcharhinus falciformis) for commercial or recreational purposes. Prohibited areas of catch of such fish include internal waters, territorial sea, exclusive economic zone, ICES statistical areas in international waters, zones around Jan Mayen and the fishery-protected zone around Svalbard. 20% bycatch of spiny dogfish measured in live weight is however allowed between 1 January and 3 June 2012. Squalus acanthias fishing with nets and longlines bewtween 31 July 2012 and 31 December 2012 may be of a maximum of 20% of the total catch in that period.
