Abstract

The purpose of the present Regulation is to ensure the welfare and health of swines through good treatment, care and appropriate facilities. The Regulation sets minimum standards for these purposes. It contains 21 articles divided into the following Chapters: I. Purpose and scope; II. Inspection and monitoring; III. Treatment and care; IV. Facilities; and V. Other provisions. The Regulation contains detailed rules on exercise, rest and other needs of swines; feeding; reproduction; health; slaughtering; infection control; etc. The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority shall be supervise the implementation of this Regulation.
