Abstract

The purpose of the Regulation is to ensure the preservation of the untouched arctic island Hopen on Svalbard - with adjacent coastal waters, including the sea bed – by protecting the area of migration and feeding ground for polar bears and seabirds, as well as populated by plants and living organisms. The protected nature reserve measures approx. 46 square km of land area and approx. 3 208 square km of marine area.
