Abstract The Regulation gives guidelines regarding the use of batteries, as their manufacture, import, export or sale is prohibited. The ban applies to batteries containing 5 ppm or more mercury; button cell batteries lawfully traded prior to 1 October 2015, wqith a limit of 2% by mercury weight; and portable batteries containing more than 20 ppm cadmium. The ban does NOT apply to batteries for emergency lighting and alarm systems, medical equipment nor portable power tools lawfully traded prior to 31 December 2016.
