Abstract

This Regulation sets rules on the prohibition for fishing and landing deep-sea species (art. 1) in ICES statistical areas X, XII and XIV outside the jurisdiction of any State (international zone) in 2013. The Regulation applies to Norwegian vessels. It is not permitted to set fishing-nets deeper than 200 meters in ICES statistical areas X, XII and XIV, whilst it is prohibited to land or discard in the sea dead or dying sharks, and to bring on board shark fins exceeding 5% of the total weight of the animal. Bycatch is only allowed for live sharks. The Fishery Directorate shall instruct cessation of fishing when total allowable catch has taken place in 508 days. It is although permitted to 17 Norwegian vessels to fish for a total of 508 fishing days, except for some fish species and with bottom trawls, bottom lines and nets from 15 February to 15 April within a defined and limited coordinate sea area (article 2).
