With a view to protecting traditional and organic cultivations of maize and avoiding the coexistence of such cultivations with transgenic cultivations, this Regional Act prohibits the cultivation of genetically modified maize. The Act sets forth the penalties to be applied in case of infringement. These provisions are adopted as urgent measures pending the notification procedure to the European Commission, as per Directive 98/34/EC.
