Abstract

In compliance with the rules and procedures laid down in Regional Act No. 19 of 1997, it is hereby established the regional nature park to be known as “Salina di Punta della Contessa” for the following overall aims: (a) to preserve and restore natural habitats, animal and plant species, especially those mentioned in Directives 79/409/EEC and 92/43/EEC, as well as the existing cultural heritage; (b) to improve the ecological function of wetlands; (c) to monitor pollution; (d) to restore polluted soils; and (e) to promote research and other educational intiatives. Article 3 provides for the zoning of the park. Article 4 prohibits a number of activities which would determine the deterioration of the protected area, such as quarrying, hunting and gathering of plant species. Article 8 lays down penalties.
