It provides for the establishment of protected areas for the following purposes: protection or restoration of natural sites and landscapes; protection and reintroduction into their habitats of wildlife species; preservation of biotypes. The Act classifies protected areas into: a) natural parks; b) natural reserves. Article 11 sets up the Regional Scientific Committee for the Environment.
