The aim is to provide for a high level of protection of the environment and to contribute to the integration of environmental considerations into the preparation and adoption of plans and programmes with a view to promoting sustainable development. All plans and projects specified in Annexes C and D, as well as those already subject to assessment as per articles 6 and 7 of Council Directive 92/43/EEC, are subject to environmental assessment. The Act sets up the Environmental Committee, which is the responsible institution in matter of environmental assessment.
