They provide rules for water supply and reinforce control on supply by private suppliers by local authorities. They make it an offence to breach a notice served by the local authority regarding a private supply of water intended for human consumption which constitutes a potential danger to human health. A local authority shall carry out a risk assessment of the private water supply, monitor the supply and keep records. The Regulations set out procedures if the private water supply is not wholesome.
